PROTECTING KAW RIVER VALLEY SOILS

Concerned Citizen Meeting

Monday, May 4  | 6:30 – 8pm

Prairie Moon School,1853 E 1600 Rd, Lawrence KS 66044

There’s no time to waste! The City of Lawrence and Douglas County Commissions are seriously considering adding large scale—maybe even hyperscale—DATA CENTERS to our community.

New development codes recently adopted by the City of Lawrence, and talk of new county regulations likely allowing data centers means it’s time for concerned citizens to step up to the plate, listen and learn a lot in a hurry, and be ready to show up for the data center conversation before it’s too late.

Attend Douglas County Commission Study Session on Data Centers

Wednesday, May 6  | 4 – 5pm

Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St, Lawrence KS 66044, second floor commission chamber

Public attendance is welcome—and needed— at study sessions, but the public will not be allowed to ask questions or speak. We’ll be there to listen and learn—and show the commissioners we’re interested.

Issues we’re concerned about include: Massive Energy Consumption, Massive Water Consumption, Water Contamination, Loss of Farmland, Noise Pollution, Higher Utility Bills for citizens, Tax Breaks for Data Center developers, and more…

Thank you to everyone who attended our 2025 Kaw Valley Field Day!

Be on the lookout for photos from this years event, and announcements about next years Field Day.

The Save Our Soil Kaw Valley Foundation is dedicated to protecting the rare and irreplaceable glacial and mineral soils of the Kaw River Valley—some of the most fertile and productive farmland in the world.

The foundation is a private, non-profit organization advocating for a future where communities recognize farming as the highest and best use of fertile farmland and work to protect farmland that sustains our economy, environment, and quality of life.

We advocate for the preservation of this vital agricultural resource through education, policy engagement, and community partnerships. Our mission is to ensure that this land continues to sustain and support future generations, protect our local food security, and preserve the unique natural, cultural, and economic heritage of the region.

By safeguarding the land, water, and rural traditions of the Kaw River Valley, we uphold the belief that agricultural use—not industrial development—is thehighest and best use of this prime farmland.
